A toast to life, for I’m feeling blessed

Date July 20, 2007

Just got back from Jakarta last Tuesday. It was a business trip, well, minus all the fun I had, it WAS a business trip, too bad it wasn’t one of those all-expense-paid kind, but I guess you can’t win them all.

Anyway, had the chance to meet up with my friends from back when I was in Perth. It’s always a good fun to meet up with them once again. Them with their jokes, updates, gossips, stories and much more. I guess I’m lucky enough that we could always meet up again every now and then, although it’s going to be a little harder from now on, since some of them are acquiring permanent resident status over there in Australia. They are the kind of friends to be treasured, and I can’t thank them enough for all the things they’ve done for me.

I met up with an old friend of mine too, we used to be a good friend back during my years studying IT. I’m glad he’s still very much the same until now. Reza, good to hear from you again, and damn, I’m still good enough to spank your sorry ass in a pool game. Think you’ll beat me that easy? Dream on, punk! :)

Was introduced to some new people as well. Each with their own, unique personalities. But in general, they are equally fun to be with.

The picture was taken at Cork & Screw, a rather funky, exclusive a-la-carte restaurant in Jakarta. Why Cork & Screw? For an obvious reason, people who are dining there can choose from quite a range of wines, which is, to me, is rather rare. Albeit all the exclusiveness of the place, the atmosphere is still casual, which is nice. Could have been better with less smoke though. My life is shorten by a few months just by dining there. No offense smokers, it’s entirely up to you. It just happen that I don’t smoke, and don’t like the strong smell of cigarette.

As I sip my wine, I came to realize that in fact, I enjoyed living back in my home country, Indonesia. Low cost of living (compared to Australia of course), extremely large varieties of food (you name it, Indian, Chinese, European, Japanese, Korean, and many more), cheap gadgets (not to mention dirt-cheap, widely-available DVDs, games and music). From work point of view, I could say that working in Indonesia does have its own tips and tricks, but after awhile, you’ll get used to it, and you’ll find yourself that working in Indonesia can be very rewarding (as long as you know how to play your card right).

Relationship? I could say I’m having a great relationship. Although it’s a long distance one for now (finger-crossed we will live in the same city soon enough) but she has been great. We’ve been through a lot, but thankfully, we are still together until this very second. I have found my self feeling blessed since I came back to Indonesia for good. Australia was fine, nothing wrong with the city. Its just that I feel like I belong here, and going back to Indonesia wasn’t a bad decision like how I used to think.

Tomorrow’s Saturday, will be going to Surabaya on Sunday. Be back in Banjarmasin next Tuesday.

Until then peeps, have a great weekend, and God bless you all.
